Kirtland Community College Receives Toyota Lift Truck to Complement Automotive Technology Studies

ROSCOMMON, Mich., (June 13, 2006) – Kirtland Community College today announced it received a new Toyota lift truck for use in its Automotive Technology department. The 10,000 lb. capacity, internal combustion lift truck was donated to the college by Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A., Inc. (TMHU).

“Our automotive technology department is thrilled with this donation,” said Richard Bonk, automotive technology instructor of Kirtland Community College. “The lift truck provides students with another engineering path to explore beyond traditional automotive studies.”

The Kirtland Automotive Technology department is nationally certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)/National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) in all eight major areas of training. Automotive technicians receive training in automotive technology, chassis, electrical systems, powertrain and more.

“This Toyota lift truck is especially important to our program because we receive many calls from lift truck service and repair companies looking for qualified technicians,” continued Bonk. “Thanks in part to Rick Kidder, a Kirtland alumnus and Toyota representative, who helped orchestrate the donation, we will be able to provide the hands-on experience necessary to better prepare our students for careers in the material handling industry.”
