Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
Toyota’s culture of shared environmental responsibility has enabled the company’s manufacturing facility to implement 1,700 energy-saving measures over the past five years—resulting in a CO2—emission reduction result of 120,000 tons—that’s roughly equivalent to planting 45,000 trees. As you can see, our philosophy of continuous improvement affects our actions as much as our products.
“Toyota is committed to environmental responsibility, and it’s a role we take very seriously. Beyond pushing the bounds of product innovation, one of Toyota’s goals is to support environmentally appropriate and socially beneficial initiatives contributing to a cleaner environment.”
Brett Wood, Chairman of Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A., Inc.
Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing (TIEM) is a zero-landfill facility.
Toyota is the only lift truck manufacturer in the world that offers a factory installed CNG fuel system option, which is both UL compliant, and EPA-CARB certified.
TIEM is ISO14001 certified and requires their top 65 suppliers, who account for more than 75% of the materials purchased locally, to be ISO14001 certified or have an equivalent EMS (Environmental Management System).
TIEM is one of only 14 Indiana businesses inducted as a charter member of Indiana's new Environmental Stewardship program. To be a member, businesses must have a good environmental track record and continue to make improvements in pollution prevention. TIEM also is a member of the Indiana Partners for Pollution Prevention (P2) organization, which is a voluntary program for Indiana businesses to benchmark and share their success in environmental improvement.
TIEM was recognized by the Governor of Indiana for environmental excellence in 2006, 2009 and 2010.
Toyota has further enhanced its commitment to responsible stewardship of the environment by partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation, a relationship the company established in 2006. As a result of the partnership, more than 57,000 trees were planted in national forests and local parks damaged by fire or other natural causes.
