ANSI Standards Protect
Your Operators and Your Business

Recently, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) developed a National Standards Strategy (NSS) for the United States. ANSI uses the NSS as a guide to face the standardization challenges of a global economy while still addressing key quality of life issues such as safety and the environment. The organization does not develop American National Standards. It does, however, provide all interested U.S. parties with a venue to come together and work toward common agreements.

ANSI has published a document titled, Identification Terminology of Loaders/Tractors with Forks and Rough Terrain Forklifts. This document defines standards for machines equipped with forks for material handling, which are intended for use on unimproved or disturbed terrain. To identify types of machines which use forks as working tools while being used on unimproved surfaces, the machines are grouped as follows:

  • loaders/tractors
  • work forks
  • rough terrain forklifts
These groupings are used in identifying the organization responsible for applicable standards.
