- Keep it separated. Use different aisles for pedestrian passageways and material flow.
- Use guards and barriers. Physical barriers assure that pedestrians and material handling equipment do not come into contact with each other.
- Use warning lights and back up alarms. Also, crossing drop arms at intersections are a good idea to reduce injury potential at crossing points.
- Make sure all material handling operators have been trained and know the rules on workplace safety and pedestrian/equipment interaction.
