Keeping up with maintenance on your forklift is the best way to ensure longevity. Of course, your forklift should undergo maintenance at every designated planned maintenance interval, but it may need additional attention. Keep these bullet points in mind for how to tell if your forklift needs maintenance:
- You’ve put a lot of hours on it. Planned maintenance is designed for a forklift that is used an average amount of hours. If you are using your forklift non-stop, or more than average, you should do maintenance checks more often than just planned maintenance.
- Your application is rough. Not only is planned maintenance designed for an average amount of hours, it’s also designed for an average application, not rugged. If your work environment is extremely dirty or rugged, planned maintenance should be performed more often.
- You hear anything change. Listening to your forklift is one of the best ways to know if it needs maintenance. If you hear any changes in its normal sound, a maintenance check or service inspection should be performed.
