As part of a series on leadership, we asked the executives of Toyota Material Handling what advice they have for aspiring leaders in the material handling industry. This week, we feature TMH Director of Aftermarket Operations Bret Bruin.

Advice to 25-year-old self: “Always be willing to learn new things or take on new responsibilities…you never know what door it may open (professionally or personally).”

Leadership Advice:

  1. “Leadership is not about a position, a title, or authority. It is about influencing and facilitating others’ success…lead from whatever seat God has you in today.”
  2. “Your success as a leader will be strongly tied to your ability to gain others’ trust. Others will give you their trust based on your character, competence, and credibility.”
  3. “Your number one responsibility as a leader is to develop talent. Hire only A-Players, provide them continuous opportunities to learn, and nurture their leadership journey.”

Quote to Note: “The bottom line in leadership isn’t how far we advance ourselves but how far we advance others.” —John C. Maxwell
