Read Time:

A walkie rider pallet jack (also known as a ride-on pallet jack) is an electric-powered material handling vehicle with a standing platform that allows the operator to ride on the equipment during operation. Unlike manual jacks, a walkie rider is motorized, allowing operators to efficiently make long runs across large warehouses, easily transport pallets, and perform low-level order picking with ease.

The walkie rider pallet jack provides a highly reliable, ergonomic solution to the challenges faced in a variety of industries, including beverage, cold storage, food storage, general manufacturing, and retail. Operating effectively indoors as a low-level warehouse picker and pallet mover, this electric pallet jack stands on a model that is a staple for fast-paced distribution centers.

Walkie Rider Pallet Jacks Available from Toyota

Toyota offers four distinct models of the ride-on electric pallet jack to suit your operational workflow:

  • End-Controlled Rider Pallet Jack: This solution is ideal for longer runs, allowing you to maneuver through your facility easily. With its 144-inch fork options and an ergonomic operator platform, the End-Controlled Rider Pallet Jack provides accessible entry and exit and excels as a low-level order picker.

  • Center-Controlled Rider Pallet Jack: With a nimble design and maximum lifting capacity on level surfaces of 8,000 lbs., this solution is ideal for longer runs, making cross-warehouse hauling fast and efficient. The Center-Controlled Rider Pallet Jack also comes equipped with regenerative breaking, providing the productivity boost you need to keep your operation moving.

  • Side-Entry End Rider: The Side-Entry End Rider includes a tight turn radius, power steering, and easy pallet entry and exit, making it easier to transport loads, whether you’re doing cross-warehouse hauling or low-level order picking.

  • Enclosed End Rider Pallet Jack: If you’re looking to boost uptime, you can count on Toyota’s Enclosed End Rider Pallet Jack. Designed with a steel-enforced undercarriage and stainless pins for reinforced strength, this solution can lift even the heaviest loads with ease. This solution also features electric power steering and an ergonomic design, which boosts output and comfort shift after shift.

Despite having layout differences, these models share similar functional advantages. All are AC-powered and feature a multifunction control handle with angled handgrips and a wrap-around hand guard. They feature load capacities ranging from 6,000 to 8,000 pounds. Additionally, the high-speed interlock allows operators to maintain a top travel speed of 6.2-6.5 mph with a full load for long-distance transport without continuously pressing a button.

Other important advantages include:

  • Programmable Performance: Parameters can be customized through a digital display to adjust for a variety of job applications.

  • Self-Diagnostics: Simplifies troubleshooting and eliminates the need for an external hand-held analyzer.

  • Glance-and-Go Display: Provides a quick, easy-to-read summary of key battery and operational information.

Customization and Options for Your Pallet Rider

With a wide range of options and accessories, your pallet rider can be customized to improve your operation’s specific productivity needs. For example, customers who move materials in and out of cold climates can add a Cold Storage Conditioning option that helps protect components from water and condensation. A Galvanized Option includes all the elements of cold storage but adds extreme protection against corrosive environments.

Popular options and accessories include:

  • Battery Compartment Rollers: Provide rollers at the bottom of the battery compartment and dual side gates to allow the battery to be rolled out from either the left or right side of the truck.
  • Coast Control with Jog Buttons: Allows the End-Controlled Rider Pallet Jack to be moved forward at the touch of a button for low-level order picking while the operator is walking next to the machine.
  • Specialized Load Wheels: Different compound types and load wheel configurations are available to assist with long runs, tight turns, and pallet entry. See our guide on How to Make Decisions Between Polyurethane and Nylon Pallet Jack Wheels for more information.
